On 15th June 2024, at the invitation of Gustavo Petek and Alisa Beck, I travelled to Vienna for a solo baritone saxophone performance in the Small Forms Series. We recorded in the afternoon and during the evening’s performance. Château Rouge, the venue, has an unusual architecture with low curved ceilings and extended asymmetrical adjacent spaces which create an intriguing, responsive acoustic quality. Gustavo had set up prior to my arrival employing two close microphones and four additional microphones at some distance to capture the sound from different angles. The selected pieces are from both the afternoon and evening’s performance.
