Who’s Game?

available on streamings platforms

This album is a live recording of Who’s Game?, which is a multimedia performance consisting of an interactive STT (speech-to-text) transcription system connected to ChatGPT, a fixed media stereo track passing through a modular synthesizer controlled by a performer, and a Chinese rapper who interacts with the system.

In the interactive STT system, there are three levels of processing. The first level involves the transcription of the original inputted Chinese rap lyrics and the translation into English. The second level entails the “correction” of the lyrics (including the translation) by ChatGPT. The final level produces a series of generated lyrics based on the previous input data.

Inspired by text-based games, this project explores the artistic potential of interactivity of STT, translation, and AI text generation in a playful manner. On one hand, the performance is a “game” that challenges the rapper’s ability to freestyle. On the other hand, this performance is a “game” that challenges the audience by presenting an unfamiliar atmosphere, an unfamiliar language, and unpredictable sounds. However, as the performance progresses towards the end, the narrative and story will be established by capturing the meanings individually throughout the entire process.
