Past/Fear
The simple gear (a mixing console and a digital effects processor) is turned into an instrument as
such through performative action. Left unused for several years they collected dust which enables
them to live a life on their own. The background noise of the console works its way through the hall unit like through a megaphone. Going into overdrive and feedback until the digital effect processor is overloaded and it begins to simulate the remoteness of war or the brutal intensity of torrential rain.
Das rudimentäre Equipment – bestehend aus einem analogen Studiomaster-Mixer aus den späten
70ern und einem digitalen Effektprozessor aus den frühen 90er Jahren – wird durch performativen
Einsatz in ein Instrument als solches verwandelt. Nachdem die Geräte über Jahre in einer Ecke
Staub gesammelt haben, sind sie nun in der Lage ein Eigenleben zu entwickeln. Das
Grundrauschen des Studiomasters arbeitet sich durch die digitale Halleinheit und wird verstärkt wie eine Stimme durch ein Megafon. Es entstehen Feedbacks und Übersteuerungen, so dass die Geräte auf einmal beginnen, entfernte Kriegsszenarien und sintflutartige Regenfälle simulieren.
Sebastian Bauer is a composer and sound-designer for dance and performance productions
collaborating with artists like Georg Blaschke, das Schaufenster, Steffen Höld, Ian Kaler, Lise
Lendais/Rendezvous Film und Bühne, Ibrahim Quraishi, Stephanie Rauch, Akemi Takeya. In the
past he was a member of the now defunct group „Kollektiv/Rauschen“ known for their site specific
compositions and performances for Filmarchiv Austria, Austrian Cultural Forum Moscow, TBA 21,
Architectural Biennale Venice. Together with Johannes Weckl he hosts the Bretterbodendisko
partys all over Vienna. With Akemi Takeya (voice) he forms the musical duo “Fantomtails”.
